MS Bike Tour Participants -Setting a ‘BHAG’ Big Hairy Audacious Goal

Last month in my web site blog I spoke about my new ‘BHAG’
A Big Hairy Audacious Goal is a goal which indicates the willingness of one to take surprisingly bold risks; it’s likely to be externally questionable, but not internally regarded as impossible, and may lead others to have the belief that the goal setter is possibly crazy.
I used to think that setting a goal was simply a way to motivate myself to get something accomplished, it was something to keep me moving forward, and, hey; if I didn’t succeed; o-well, no big deal, I could try another tactic, lower my expectations or change my goal completely. I used to think that setting multiple goals meant at least I might reach a few of them.
Since getting involved in the Hinton MS Bike Tour and pushing myself to become a top fundraiser I have changed my goal setting mind-set considerably. You might say I have raised the bar.
My new philosophy is not to even consider setting a goal if I am not going to accomplish it. Remember Star Wars; Yoda ‘There is no try’!
But wait; failure to meet a big goal or to accomplish a task does not necessarily mean that I have failed at least as long as I have truly and legitimately prepared and tried my hardest, and more importantly, as long as I have learned from the experience.
Failure can be success if we learn from it; in reality, to be successful we often do fail, we just need to get up one more time than we are knocked down.
Last year my BHAG was to cycle Highway 93, Arizona to Alberta for the MS Society this year my ‘Big Hairy Audacious Goal’ is to cycle Highway 16 from ‘end to end’, That’s 3000 km from Masset, Haida Gwaii to Winnipeg Manitoba and the same as last year to raise at least $93,000. cash and raise awareness for all people affected by MS.
Crazy?? Maybe; but we all need a BHAG!
So what’s your ‘BHAG’ going to be for the MS Bike Tour in 2014?
I am not suggesting you cycle across the country or anything crazy like that; but what I am suggesting is that you take a moment to evaluate your fundraising efforts and accomplishments from last year and make a firm commitment to kick it up a few notches.
Let’s all collectively accelerate the movement to END MS by setting big fundraising goals this year.
Set your Big Hairy Audacious Goal, tell all your friends, family, co-workers, and you will be surprised how much support you will get and you will do it!
You can do it!
